For years, US -based technology companies have embedded in the growing and increasing internet of India for growth. Openai is no exception. But while that Lab claims that India is one of its faster chatgt markets, third parties’ data suggest that Openai may be struggling to turn it into income.
According to the Sensortower Analytical Firm, users in India have spent $ 8 million on chatgpt subscriptions through purchases within the app since 2023. This does not include purchases made through the web chat application. But in particular, it is a part of Sensortower estimates $ 330 million that US users have spent on chatgpt within the app.
A possible factor is the lack of local prices for India. The cheapest Openai chati plan in the country costs $ 20 (more than 1,700) per month, which is considered expensive for digital reconciliation in India.
When contacted, Openai did not share specific details about its growth in India, but directed us in a recent post on X by Coo Brad LightCap, which claims that India is the fastest growing market of chatgpt.
Low as revenue can currently be, India can still end up as a large growth propeller for Openai. The company’s general manager, Sam Altman, recently expressed a desire for Openai to become a multi -billion users platform. Responding to over 950 million India Internet users can help bootstrap that effort.
Openai apparently thinks so. The company is reportedly judging an alliance with Reliance Jio, one of India’s largest carriers, to get chatgpt ahead of more users.
Meanwhile, the chatgt continues to grow organically in India.
According to data from the App Tracker Appfigures, more than 20% of Android Chatgt Apps Downloads this year have been in India so far. At least part of that growth was driven by the recently rebuilt image generator in the chatgt, who went viral for his ability to create realistic Gibli style art.
For the context, the chatgt has more than 500 million weekly users globally.
