The flag of Openai, he chatbot, chatgt, turned strong in the last half of 2024, according to a new report published Thursday by VC Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z). While it took chatgpt nine months to grow from 100 million active user users in November 2023 to 200 million in August 2024, it is now less than six months for the app to double those numbers again, the report revealed.
Immediately after its release in November 2022 as a research survey, the chatgt became the fastest app ever to reach 100 million active monthly users – a historic moment that struck in just two months.
By November 2023, Chatgpt had reached another milestone of 100 million active users, which increased to 300 million by December 2024, then 400 million in February 2025.
According to the A16Z, the consumer’s initial chatgt demand was further addressed by innovation. That is, consumers were interested in trying the app, but were not necessarily sure how it would fit into their daily lives.
However, the latest chatgpt growth comes to the heels of releasing new models and functionality, including the onset of GPT-4o, which added multimodal skills. Immediately after the start of this model, the use of the chatgpt collided from April to May 2024.
Later, after the arrival of advanced sound mode, the use increased again from July to August 2024. The O1 models series led to increased use during September 2024.
On the mobile, Chatgpt’s growth has been more stable, the firm points out.
Users of the Chatgpt Mobile App have increased by 5% to 15% each month last year, with 175 million of 400 million active users of the Chatgt week now entering the app on mobile devices.
The report also examines the impact that rivals like Deepseek have had in the market. The app increased to No. 2 globally in just 10 days and reached no.2 on the mobile in February, capturing 15% of the ChatGPT mobile user base.
On the mobile, Deepseek users are even slightly more engaged than confused and Claude users, according to data from the Mobile Intelligence Provider Tower. However, it still lags behind chatgpt on this front.
Other findings in the new market analysis include tool recommendations for developers and coders, ranking the best applications by category and income, and listing the best Genai applications across the mobile and online.
At the last front, chatgpt enters no. 1 With unique monthly visits online and active monthly mobile user, the report noted, citing data from the market intelligence provider.
