Elon Musk recently said he “is not calling to get tiktok”.
Musk made them remarks during an interview at WELT Economic Summit on January 28. A video of the interview was published today.
The interview came after President Donald Trump delayed a law requested by the parent company by Tiktok to sell or see it detained in the United States. At the time, there were reports that the Chinese government was open to a deal in which Musk (a key Trump ally) would win the app. Trump even told reporters that he would like to see Musk or Oracle Larry Ellison Mayor to win Tiktok; He has also signed an executive order to create a Sovereign property fund that could buy an app.
But Musk claimed that he was not interested, saying firmly, “I did not introduce an offer for Tiktok.”
“I don’t have any plans for what I would do if I had tiktok,” he said in the interview. “I think I would look at the algorithm and try to decide: How useful or useful is this algorithm? And what can we do to move the algorithm to be more productive and ultimately useful to humanity ? “
He added that he does not “use Tiktok personally” and is not “familiar with him”. And he described his Twitter acquisition (now X) as an abnormality in his career: “I usually build companies from scratch.”
Musk’s comments about Tiktok came nearly 20 minutes in the interview, which originally focused on his plans for his government efficiency department (DOGE) under Trump’s administration. Musk and his allies then took control of federal agencies and gained access to large sensitive data grips.
“Concerning the government, really the challenge is overcoming bureaucracy,” he said. “I think bureaucracy is probably the chief’s penultimate battle. The boss’s last battle is defeating the entropy … The second most difficult battle is to defeat bureaucracy. That is how difficult it is to improve the government.”
