Google will rename Mexico and Mount Denali Alaska on Google Maps as a federal map data base reflects the changes ordered by the Trump administration, the company announced on Monday.
Google is in line with an executive order issued last week by President Donald Trump who changed the names of some American monuments. The executive order was forwarded by a statement from the US Department of Interior, who said the name changes were now official and the geographical naming bodies were working “quickly” to fulfill Trump’s order.
“We have a long practice to apply name changes when they are updated on official government resources,” Google wrote in a post on X.
Mexico’s Gulf Name on Google Maps will soon be the “Gulf of America” for US users, a completely new name created by the Trump administration.
Denal, which is the highest roof of North America, will soon appear on Google Maps for all global users as his previous Mount Mckinley name. Mount Alaskan was named Mount McKinley in 1917 to honor the 25th President of America, William McKinley; The roof was renamed Denal during the Obama administration in 2015. The Trump administration is changing it, despite protests by some Alaskan senators.
However, not everyone in the world using Google Maps will see America’s bosom.
Geographical names that are opposed among different countries appear on Google maps under the official name of each country for their citizens, according to a social media post from Google. This means that Mexico’s breast name will not change for Google Maps’ Mexican users, where the country’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, mocking Trump for suggesting a new name for the water body. In other countries, Google Maps will display the names of America and Mexico for the breast arm.
Google says it will make these changes when updated by official American designation database, information system for geographical names or GNI. Although the internal department announced that the changes of the US Bay name and Mount McKinley were official on Friday, GNI still reflects that both Mexico’s Gulf and Denal have been named Monday evening.
