IBM is emitting the last version of its main device that includes new updates intended to accelerate the adoption of it.
Hardware and Monday Counseling Company announced IBM Z17, the latest version of its Mainframe computer device. This main coded is fully enabled by an IBM Telum II processor and is created for more than 250 cases of use of it, the company says, including agents of the one and the generating.
Mainframes may look like an old hat, but they are used by 71% of Fortune 500 companies today, according to one source. In 2024, the mainframe market was worth about $ 5.3 billion for the future of the market’s market research.
Z17 can process 450 billion conclusions of conclusions within a day, a 50% increase in its predecessor, IBM Z16, which was issued in 2022 and developed in the original processor of the company’s stories. The system is designed to be able to fully integrate with other tools of equipment, software and open source.
Tina Tarquinio, VP of Product and Design Management for IBM Z, told Techcrunch that this main update has been in the works for five years – much before the current rage that began with the release of Openai’s chat in November 2022.
IBM spent more than 2,000 hours of research receiving feedback from over 100 clients while building Z17, Tarquinio said. She thinks it’s interesting to see that, now, five years later, the reactions they lined up with the place where the market ended.
“It has been wild knowing that we are presenting an accelerator of him, and then see, especially in the later half of 2022, all the changes in the industry about him,” Tarquinio Techcrunch told him. “Been is really exciting. I think the biggest point has been (it) we don’t know what we don’t know about what you are coming, so the opportunities are really unlimited in what it can help us to do.”
The Z17 is set up to adapt and accommodate where he said his market heads, Tarquinio said. Mainframe will support 48 chips of IBM Spy’s accelerator after release, with the plan to bring that number up to 96 within 12 months.
“We are deliberately building in the head room,” Tarquinio said. “We are deliberately building in that agility. So, as new models are introduced, (we are) making sure we have built in the head room for larger, larger models – models that probably need more local memory to talk to each other. We have built it because we know that the new approach is.”
Tarquinio said that one of the highlights of this latest device-that is, joking that it was as if to seek to choose her favorite child-is that Z17 is more energy efficient than her predecessor and supposedly competitors.
“In the chip, we are increasing the acceleration of the one by seven and a half times, but it is five and a half times less energy than you will have, like a lot of model in another type of accelerator or platform in industry,” Tarquinio said.
Mainframes Z17 will generally become available on June 8.
