Skylight, a start taking Tiktok with a more open alternative, is starting his mobile application for the public on Tuesday after only 10 weeks of active development. The app, which is supported by Mark Cuban and others, is now one of the many to build at the top of the AT protocol – the same technology that supports the Bluesky social network and a growing number of other applications.
Developed by co -founder Tori White (CEO) and Reed Harmeyer (CTO), Skylight offers a short video experience with many popular features, including a video editor within the app; the ability to comment as well as to share video; Set up your user profile; and follow others.
Because it is also built on the AT protocol (or “atproto” for February), users will immediately enter the Bluesky network with over 33.8 million users. This means that the videos posted on Skylight can be viewed and engaged by users in Bluesky and other ATPROTO-based applications, as more photo-centered bubbles, for example.
The company is funded by a front of Kubani, who said earlier this year that he wanted to finance a Tiktok alternative built on the AT protocol. Venture Graham & Walker’s Fund of Leslie Feinzaig also invested.
White, who was once an influencer of the travel and is now a developer of self-mechanical software living in Seattle, says she and co-founder Hermeyer were inspired to create light of light when they first heard that Tiktok was banned in the US
In preparation of the detention, which is currently in pause, White had supported her Tiktok videos. But she was still worried about losing entry into her community and comments. She and Hermeyer had already played with Atproto and saw the potential.

“The first thing we interested in Atproto was that Bluesky was not failing,” Harmeyer Techcrunch told the Seattle atmosphere conference in March. “We don’t see” failed whale, “he said, a reference to the graph that appeared in the early days of Twitter when the app was constantly collapsed. “It made us feel comfortable for basic technology.”
Harmeyer and White quickly realized that this was an ideal time to build a new social app in the protocol that could be “stop”.
Entering its background of the influencer, White began documenting the development of Skylight in Tiktok, which helped bring exposure to the product and build a potentially interested user.

“We started with distribution,” White explained. “I actually made a video before we ever write a code line for this … (so) everyone can follow our journey as we build,” she told Techcrunch at the conference. “We were like, oh my Lord, we are building this thing we think is so cute, but no one is still interested. So we have to build a way to tell people about it so they disown Care, because we know people need it, ”she said.
Today, White’s Profile @buildwithtori Tiktok has nearly 50,000 followers, many of whom were transformed into early testers.
Like Bluesky, Skylight supports video uploads up to three minutes in length, a recent increase from previously supported videos. But White sees the light of light becoming more than just a decentralized ticking clone.

It implies that the light of light in the future will allow users to adjust their food, including the use of new gestures beyond movement and movement.
Other features in the works include support for sounds, duets, stitches, cheeks and play lists.
The app is in beta on Google Play Store and is now publicly available on Apple App Store after initial testing.
