Windsurf, the manufacturer of a popular coding assistant, is in talks that will be won by Openai for about $ 3 billion, Bloomberg reported.
If the deal happens, it would come to Openai in direct competition with a number of other providers of the coding assistants, including Anysphere, the cursor manufacturer, which Openi supported by his starting Openai fund.
Purchase can jeopardize the reliability of the Openai starting fund, given that it is one of the biggest cursor investors, said a person familiar with the Cursor lids table. It is not clear if Openai approached the cursor for a purchase.
In addition to what the sources told Bloomberg, there is some other data that something is happening between the two companies. A few days ago, Windsurf users received an email saying that due to a later announcement this week, they have the opportunity to close in access to the $ 10 per month coding editor.
And the leading Openai products official Kevin Weil also released a video yesterday praising Windsurf’s skills.
Windsurf, the company previously known as Codeium, has been in talks to raise fresh funds with a $ 2.85 billion rating led by Kleiner Perkins, Techcrunch reported in February. The company has reached about $ 40 million in repeated annual revenue (ARR), according to our reporting. This revenue management rate is much lower than that of the cursor, which is reported to make $ 200 million based on the ERA. The cursor has been in talks to raise capital with estimates about $ 10 billion, Bloomberg reported last month.
Since its founding in 2021 by Varun Mohan and his childhood friend and his friend MIT Grad, Douglas Chen, Windsuf has raised $ 243 million from investors including Greenoaks Capital and Genereal Catalyst, according to Pitchbook Data.
